Breast Augmentation in the Los Angeles, Beverly Hills Area
Century Aesthetics® serves Los Angeles and the Beverly Hills area, offering quality plastic surgery procedures such as breast lift, augmentation and reduction.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation, or breast implant surgery, is the most common form of breast surgery. It is designed to make breasts larger.
Before you decide to undergo surgery, we will discuss the placement of breast implants with you at our Los Angeles clinic, near Beverly Hills. During breast augmentation surgery, we can position the implants behind the breast or behind the muscles of the chest wall. Dr. Fodor will determine which position is best for your body type.
Dr. Fodor performs breast surgery at a hospital, usually one in Los Angeles or the Beverly Hills area. After the breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Fodor will recommend whether patients should stay overnight in a hospital for observation.
For the first few days after surgery, it is important to avoid strenuous activity, driving, or lifting over thirty pounds. Gradually, you will resume all activity. It takes approximately one to three months for the swelling to completely dissipate and for the implant to "settle in." The sutures will have been removed long before this time.
Most women find that their breasts remain nearly as soft as normal breasts. In a few, the "capsule" that normally develops around the implant contracts and becomes uncomfortably firm. More severe firmness can occur, but this happens quite rarely when the appropriate measures of prevention are taken. Read what patients say about breast augmentation surgery.
The postoperative size and shape of the breast is partially dependent on your own body size and configuration. Choosing the appropriate implant size depends upon the size you wish to achieve, your own breast size and shape, and the configuration of your chest wall.

Breast Lift
With age, multiple pregnancies, or a genetic weakness of the breast supports, sagging may occur. This can be partially corrected and masked by an augmentation operation if the size of the breast and amount of sagging are both small.
However, a breast that truly sags requires a definitive breast lift. This procedure typically takes about two hours when performed at our Los Angeles surgery center near Beverly Hills. After breast lift surgery, you may notice some scars, but these are typically less visible than those created by breast reduction.

Breast Reduction
At our Los Angeles clinic, we recommend breast reduction to women with excessively large breasts. Pendulous breasts are common in two primary groups of women: 14-20 year-olds and women who have undergone childbirth or experienced weight gain. The operation is designed to reduce the bulk of the breast tissue and to move the nipple and areola upward to the position it was in before the breast became excessively large and/or pendulous, or to the “ideal” position.
One of the main drawbacks of breast reduction is scarring. Undergoing the procedure is thus a tradeoff: a more visually attractive, comfortable breast in exchange for some level of scarring. Depending on age and breast configuration, certain new methods of breast reduction may be used to reduce the scarring. In some patients, liposuction, which involves far less scarring, may achieve the ideal shape and contour.
Breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia at our surgery center near the Los Angeles, Beverly Hills area. After the breast reduction procedure, you may need to stay overnight in a hospital. A simple bandage is applied following surgery, and a bra smaller than the one to which you are accustomed will need to be worn for three weeks. The sutures are removed at intervals beginning about seven days after the surgery. If not absorbable, the last sutures are usually removed two to three weeks later.

Correction of Gynecomastia (female-like breasts in men)
The presence of gynecomastia in the general male population is estimated by some to be as high as 40 percent in adults and 60 percent in adolescents. In adolescents, excess weight, or "baby fat," is often accompanied by an enlarged, fatty breast area. In most cases, this disappears in one or two years. In some individuals, however, the breast enlargement persists through adolescence and into adulthood. As this individual enters middle age, the midriff spreads, pads of fat gather at the waist ("love handles"), and additional fatty tissue accumulates at the breast. Between the ages of 50 and 70, therefore, gynecomastia becomes almost universal.
Gynecomastia can also occur in older patients being treated for prostate cancer with medications containing estrogen. Also, since the liver metabolizes estrogen, impaired liver function (such as in the case of an alcoholic) can also lead to gynecomastia. In very rare instances, a hormone-producing testicular tumor can lead to the condition. Finally, the intake of anabolic steroids has been known to lead to gynecomastia in body builders.
Most gynecomastia cases are not related to systemic diseases such as the ones described above, and therefore may be corrected with modern surgical techniques. For those patients whose gynecomastia is caused primarily by excessive fatty tissue, liposuction alone will be used, while for those whose condition is based on glandular enlargement as well as excessive fatty tissue, a combination of liposuction and glandular excision is necessary. Since the breast tissue development that comes with gynecomastia consists primarily of fatty tissue, liposuction alone is sufficient in most instances.
