From Los Angeles and Beverly Hills to Minneapolis and New York, people are undergoing BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments to remove unsightly forehead lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is derived from a specific form of bacteria. It was originally utilized as a remedy for neck and facial spasms. In the last decade, it has been used effectively for cosmetic reasons in top skin care clinics in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and other major cities across the nation. BOTOX® Cosmetic is an extremely efficient approach to softening or removing the natural wrinkles between the eyes (frown lines), on the forehead, at the sides of the eyes (crow's feet), at the base of the nose, around the lips, etc.

It is injected through a very small needle into the muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic stops nerve impulses from reaching the muscles. This causes these muscles to relax, which makes wrinkles gradually disappear. The results last three to six months and, at times, longer.

Dr. Fodor also has extensive experience using BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat headaches (including migraines) and excessive sweating of the armpits and palms.

Collagen

In our youth, we have soft, elastic skin that is free from wrinkles or other signs of aging. We have this youthful skin because of a layer of collagen beneath the skin. As we age, this layer of collagen weakens, and the skin loses its elasticity. Collagen injections can strengthen this layer of natural collagen, smoothening out wrinkles and scars on your face or body.

To detect possible allergic reactions to the collagen injection, we give our patients a skin test at our Los Angeles office, near Beverly Hills. If there’s no allergic reaction to collagen, (this is the case roughly 97% of the time), the patient returns to our office, where Dr. Fodor reviews the medical record and outlines the basics of the treatment.

After the collagen treatment, you will notice some mild side effects, such as bruising, puffiness, or tenderness. They are normal and will disappear in a few days. You can return to your usual activities, including work, almost immediately after the injection.

The effect of your collagen injection should last from six months to two years. Injected collagen decreases as time passes, just like natural collagen, so you may decide to return to our Los Angeles clinic for additional injections of collagen.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a procedure used to improve the skin's texture. It is used to smooth fine wrinkles and the uneven surfaces that result from scarring, acne, or similar problems. At our Los Angeles clinic, dermabrasion is performed with rotary diamond and Carborum discs, and essentially works like "sanding" a piece of wood. To avoid discomfort, either local anesthetics and sedatives or a general anesthetic are used. Dermabrasion leaves the treated area with a thick brown crust that separates in seven to ten days. The underlying skin appears reddened and usually requires three to six months to return to a normal hue. During this interval, the area can be covered with cosmetics as desired, but must be protected from direct sunlight.

Dermabrasion is usually confined to the facial area and is performed in the hospital in Los Angeles or the Beverly Hills area. The results of dermabrasion are limited by the skin's thickness and the depth of the lesion being "sanded." Shallow scars or acne pits respond better than deep, narrow, round pits. Regardless of the size, shape, and extent of the scarring, it is important to remember that dermabrasion will not eliminate a condition. During your consultation, an attempt is made to estimate how much improvement can be made.

Fat Injections, AlloDerm® and Gore-Tex®

Fat injections, Gore-Tex®, and AlloDerm® are some of the methods used to augment the lips and other “soft tissues” of the face.

Gore-Tex® is a material that has been used for decades in surgery to patch blood vessels, replace major arteries, and repair damaged knee ligaments. When manufactured for surgical purposes, it is soft in texture, like human tissue. Gore-Tex® is usually cut into strips or strings. At our clinic near Beverly Hills, we use these strips of Gore-Tex® for lip augmentation.

AlloDerm® is another, newer product made from real human tissue. It is irradiated to eliminate rejection. AlloDerm® is used in a variety of procedures, including lip augmentation. AlloDerm® is semi-permanent (some of it can absorb). The fact that it contains natural substances provides an authentic look and feel.

Fat injections involve the injection of one's own fat - taken from other parts of the body - into the lips or to fill fine lines and wrinkles. Although fat injections and other procedures that involve the transfer of one's own fatty tissues show some promise, because most of the fat is absorbed, they do not provide permanent results. Fat injections, therefore, require "maintenance" for lasting results.

Restylane®

From New York to Los Angeles, patients are asking for Restylane® injections to diminish facial wrinkles, such as lines between the nose and mouth.

Restylane® is the first and only FDA-approved dermal filler made of biodegradable Non Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA™), a completely natural substance which already exists in the human body.

In a randomized, double blind clinical trial, Restylane® showed a statistically significant difference over bovine collagen (56.9 percent versus 9.5 percent, respectively) with respect to change from baseline, when used to correct nasolabial folds. In addition, these results were sustained more than six months, significantly longer than collagen.

Restylane® is biocompatible and biodegradable since it is made of hyaluronic acid, which naturally exists in the human body. Restylane® has been used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons in more than one million procedures in more than 60 countries outside of the United States since 1996.

Restylane® uses a dual mechanism of action to correct wrinkles and folds:
1. Upon being injected beneath the skin’s surface, the NASHA™ gel adds natural volume and lift to smooth facial wrinkles and folds.

2. The NASHA™ gel integrates into dermal tissue then attracts and binds to water molecules to help maintain volume.
Restylane® is gradually degraded by the body’s own mechanism and disappears without any residue.

Restylane® is administered by licensed practitioners through a mid-to-deep dermal implantation.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peel is performed at our Los Angeles clinic with a dilute acid and is generally reserved for wrinkle lines. To begin the procedure, your face is first washed to remove any excess oil. After Dr. Fodor has performed the procedure, the face develops a white, frosty appearance, which lasts several minutes. This is followed by a dark red hue. The next day Thymol iodide (U.S.P.) powder is dusted onto the chemically treated surfaces in liberal quantities. It is reapplied several times during the following 24 hours, until a thick crust forms. This crust remains for about five days. On about the sixth day, the crusts will gradually lift away, leaving behind a pink-colored skin. To remove redness and speed up healing, patients are instructed to apply a specifically formulated ointment.

The underlying skin appears reddened and usually requires three to six months to return to a normal hue. During this period, the area can be covered with cosmetics as desired, but must be protected from direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight is to be avoided for three to four months.
